Context
The protests of June, 2013 and criticism of the FIFA World Cup by the throngs of protesters have reinforced the need to produce qualified information in relation to the 2014 World Cup. The violent and authoritarian repression of protests, which was seen throughout the country, created the imperative to guarantee the rights attained by Brazilian society, such as the freedom to protest, the right to work, the right to dignified housing and, especially, the dignity of the human person. The proximity to national and state elections increases the tension in the sense of increasing polarization and politicization of criticism of the mega-event, such that the production of qualified information counter-information will be essential to deconstructing the empty arguments related to partisanship and reinforce the progress already made by the committees, which criticism is concentrated on the elitist and privatization-oriented development model, which has created a climate of legal exceptions, criminalization of social movements and human rights violations, especially against low-income populations.
