Up until February 27th, the Brazil Human Rights Fund is accepting applications as part of the 2013 Call for Proposals to select projects for financial support this year. Up to R$800,000 will be donated to be distributed amongst projects with budgets of R$20,000-R$40,000 and time-frames of up to one year. The selection process aims to support projects that combat the most varied types of institutional violence and discrimination — those which occur under the auspices of official institutions, their representatives and/or corporations.
The principal targets for support are projects which: defend the rights of women, indigenous, descendants of runaway slave communities and rural workers; defend the right to land and territory; combat homophobia and racism; fight against slave labor, child labor, political violence, violations of socio-environmental rights, the criminalization of social movements and organizations; among others.
The 2013 Call for Proposals was launched during another installment of Musical Dialogs in Human Rights, with a show by Fabiana Cozza, on November 30th, 2012, at Sesc Bom Retiro in São Paulo.
The Fund has been holding calls for proposals to select its projects since 2007. In these first six years, six annual calls and one special selection process have been held, supporting a total of 175 projects throughout the country and donating a total of R$4.2 million.
