Margarida Genevois was a member of the Peace and Justice Commission of the Archdiocese of São Paulo for twenty-five years. She helped political prisoners during the military dictatorship and reported cases of disappearances and torture to international organizations. With the re-democratization of Brazil, she continued in the struggle against human rights violations and still inspires us all today with her work and dedication.
A Mass to celebrate her birthday was scheduled for March 10, 2013. The homage took place at São Domingos Church, on Rua Caiubim 126 in Perdizes, São Paulo.
“The struggle for human rights is a passion. It’s like a microbe that, once it gets you, has no vaccine, no treatment. You’re motivated and in love with it for the rest of your life.” –Margarida Genevois
