The Brazil Fund is an independent, nonprofit foundation established by human rights activists to strengthen civil society organizations, particularly those led by people and communities directly affected by rights violations.
At the Brazil Fund, we understand that a strong civil society is a fundamental component of democracy.
Our support consists of grants; facilitation of learning, mobilization, and networking opportunities; and individualized monitoring of the work of each supported organization and collective. All of this is done with respect for the autonomy and strategies of each group, aiming to provide technical support to maximize the impact of each project.
The autonomy of grantees and the leadership of people
and communities directly affected by rights violations
are fundamental values for the Brazil Fund
We support the fight for racial and gender justice, the rights of Indigenous peoples, quilombola and traditional communities, climate justice in the Amazon and other biomes of the country, the rights of children and youth, LGBTQIA+ individuals, rural and precarious workers, communities impacted by infrastructure and urban development projects, victims of state violence and their families and communities, and the fight against mass incarceration and torture in the prison system, among others.
To sustain this work, we raise funds to allocate to organizations and communities fighting for fundamental rights and combating inequalities, institutional violence, and discrimination across the country. In this way, we act as a bridge, connecting donors to projects of social transformation.
Brazil Human Rights Fund’s mission is to promote respect for human rights in Brazil, building innovative and sustainable mechanisms to channel resources to strengthen civil society organizations and to develop philanthropy for social justice.
