A crowded conference held in early April, marked the final phase of the call for proposals on “Strategic litigation, advocacy and communication for the promotion, protection and defense of human rights” which was launched by Brazil Fund in partnership with Ford Foundation. This call for proposals provided support to eleven projects promoting progress and changes of great impact.
This call for proposals allowed us to support and strengthen actions leading to social change related to emblematic cases. Besides that, it provided motivation for those projects carried out by human rights clinics in universities, in partnership with civil society organizations.
Representatives of the supported projects, law students, lawyers, activists and other interested parties attended debates and presentations on strategic litigation during the conference.
In the first months of the year, another important moment was the arrival of proposals as a consequence of the two calls for proposals released at the end of 2015. As a demonstration of the wide scope reached by Brazil Fund, we received 1,365 proposals coming from all regions of the country. Projects were chosen after a strict and transparent selection process.
The year 2016 marks our 10th anniversary and many activities were planned to celebrate it. We have many news yet to come as we continue our work promoting human rights in several fronts, always with a view to building innovative and sustainable strategies to deliver resources to civil society organizations and promote philanthropy for social justice.
