Annual Call – Fighting institutional violence and discrimination *

Brazil Human Rights Fund’s goal is to promote human rights in Brazil raising awareness of Brazilian society and prompting it to support initiatives that generate new paths and significant changes to the country.
We are committed to providing resources to support institutional development and for activities organized by civil society and human rights defenders throughout the country, prioritizing those with fewer resources or with limited access to other financial sources.
PROJECTS SELECTION 2017
In 2017, Brazil Human Rights Fund will donate up to R$40,000.00 (forty thousand reais) to support each of the selected projects. Priority will be given to organizations and groups, but also to individuals, provided that such proposals meet the requirements of this announcement.
FOCUS
|| Projects that aim to contribute to the fight against institutional violence and discrimination
|| Projects that combine actions aiming at the fight against institutional violence and discrimination and relate to the following themes: right to just and sustainable cities; right to freedom of expression, organization and manifestation; right to free sexual orientation and gender identity; right to land and territory; rights of indigenous peoples; rights of the Maroon people and other traditional populations; environmental rights under megaprojects; tackling human trafficking and slave labor; women’s rights; right of children and adolescents; youth rights; confronting racism; guaranteeing the rule of law and criminal justice.
In 2017, Brazil Human Rights Fund will give speciall attention to projects working with protection of human rights defenders.
CRITERIA TO APPLY TO THIS CALL
|| Projects requesting amounts from a minimum of R$20,000.00 (twenty thousand reais) to a maximum of R$40,000.00 (forty thousand reais) with duration of up to 12 months.
|| Projects sent by organizations and groups with an annual revenue of up to R$700,000.00 (seven hundred thousand reais). || Each organization, group or collective may submit only one project. The same applies to proposals sent by individuals.
|| Proposals will be accepted from individuals and non-profit organizations, groups and collectives, even if they still haven’t formalized their situation or if they are not registered as legal entities.
|| We will not accept projects proposed by governmental organizations, universities, international organizations, political parties, small or medium-sized enterprises, micro-enterprises and individual micro entrepreneurs.
IMPORTANT FEATURES IN THE SELECTION OF PROJECTS
|| Compatibility with the focus stablished by this call.
|| Project’s relevance to the subject of the call.
|| Compatibility between the intervention strategy and the problem to be tackled.
|| Connection between the proposing organization and the groups and/or communities affected by the problem.
|| Connection to networks, forums, local, regional or national organizations.
|| Compatibility between budget and proposed activities.
|| Innovation and/or methodological creativity.
|| Potential multiplication effects of the project.
|| Regional diversity.
WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE PROJECT AFTER IT IS RECEIVED BY BRAZIL FUND?
Brazil Fund’s staff briefly analyzis all projects received and, after that, projects are sent to a selection committee made up by experts. The Committee decideds which projects will be supported, leaving the final decision to the Board of Trustees of Brazil Fund. The result of this process will be informed through our website after June 30, 2017.
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR PROJECT

|| This form should be accompanied by a letter signed by another organization or individual reffering the project. We also ask you to send the names of two people and their contact information (address, phone number) who could provide more information about the organization or group. This also applies to individual projects.
|| The project should be sent to Brazil Human Rights Fund’s address only by regular mail, by February 24, 2017, as directed below. Projects posted after this date will not be considered.
