Learn moreThe path to addressing climate change involves listening to and directly supporting the peoples and communities that have long inhabited and stewarded territories with respect for both the environment and human well-being.
In this context, the Brazil Human Rights Fund launched Raízes – Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Fund for Climate Justice. The fund is supported by philanthropic international funds and aims to centralize and expand our contribution to the fight for rights, climate justice, and environmental justice in the Amazon and beyond, reaching communities and solutions across all of the country’s biomes. Raízes has been mobilizing to secure new resources, aiming to expand its reach and meet this challenge. Currently, Raízes also has the support of Instituto Itaúsa.
Based on an intersectional approach, the initiative strengthens groups, collectives, peoples, communities, and organizations through grants for actions focused on defending territorial rights, protecting natural resources, and providing productive alternatives. It also supports capacity building, training, and promotes the coordination and active participation of Indigenous peoples and local communities in the debates on environmental and climate justice.
Exclusive funding opportunities for Indigenous peoples, local communities, and quilombola groups
Raízes emergency funds are rapid response funds for the leadership of Indigenous peoples and local communities facing severe threats due to their efforts to defend their peoples, communities, and territories.
Its goal is to support the creation or enhancement of individual or collective security measures, strengthen solidarity networks, and protect territories.
