Learn moreIt’s part of the Brazil Fund’s strategic mission to strengthen civil society organizations through activities of training and networking.
Training and networking
Beyond the granting of resources, the individual monitoring of each project is also part of the Brazil Fund’s support. That monitoring is done with absolute respect to the groups’ autonomy and includes both virtual meetings and in loco visits.
Our support methodology for organized civil society also includes stimulating dialogue between groups of human rights defenders. We understand that analysis done collectively and learning opportunities between peers bolster the work of each group in its own territory, at the same time as it expands the projects’ impact on a larger scale.
Strategic support
In meetings throughout 2023, we gathered over 280 activists of supported groups for dialogues on the conjunction, challenges and opportunities for the defense of human rights in the country.
The Projects Gathering is a large scale event that proposes intersectional dialogues between collectives dedicated to different causes. There have been two in 2023, undertaken in the city of São Paulo with approximately 100 participants each, and there were debates on specific topics, their contact points, popular participation through a change in the political-electoral situation in the country, fighting growing religious fundamentalism, among others. The gatherings also offered workshops: on institutional strengthening, strategic communication and fundraising.
There have also been autonomous gatherings organized by groups funded by the Brazil Fund on the fields of the fights they undertake. For those gatherings, our team has been invited and participated, mostly as a listener, to get to know the conducted work. There have been ten events of that nature throughout the year in São Paulo, Bahia, Pará, Piauí, Rio de Janeiro and the Federal District.
