Objetivos e público alvo
The project looks to offer the eleven indigenous peoples of northwest Mato Grosso legal clarifications on their rights and acquaint them with legislative measures that may threaten them. It also intends to discuss the environmental consequences of the construction of more than 114 hydroelectric projects in the Juruena River basin (MT), in addition to the countless mining contracts expected to appear on indigenous lands.

– Legal assistance, taking into consideration the specific problems of each people.
– Preparation of political networking possibilities for these peoples.
Contexto
The idea for this project arose during the 2012 project “Meeting of the Wahoro Kütsa (allies) of the Juruena River for the maintenance of tsapyrena (good, beautiful, adequate) life – discussions, reflections and alternatives for the hydroelectric dam-building in northwest Mato Grosso.” During the evaluation of the “Meeting of the Wahoro Kütsa,” which included the presence of indigenous leaders representing eleven peoples of northwest Mato Grosso, the necessity of a larger project, one that would allow for meetings in villages of each of the OIMECRIKANAZ peoples, was affirmed. The meetings would pursue greater legitimization of their rights, since these peoples are faced with legislative changes, project constructions that infringe on their territorial autonomy, discrimination and violation of their cultural and environmental rights.

The OIMECRIKANAZ mission is the union of the indigenous peoples Rikbaktsa, Kayabi, Munduruku, Nambiquara, Irantxe, Mynky, Arara, Cinta Larga, Zoró, Apiaká, Enawene-Nawe and their respective indigenous associations; the defense and guarantee of inherent collective rights to its members; promotion of exchange programs with other national and international indigenous associations and organizations; promotion of the defense and protection of indigenous lands and the sociocultural and environmental heritage existent within.
Resultados
Workshops on indigenous rights were held as well as activities fostering the peoples’ political networking possibilities.
