Objetivos e público alvo
The initiative is a continuation of the “We transform” project supported by the Brazil Human Rights Fund in 2012. The proposal looks to guarantee the rights of transvestites and transsexuals, especially in terms of gender identity, by promoting sensitivity awareness among public servants and public administrators.
Atividades Principais
– Production of educational material on human rights and gender identity;
– Sensitivity workshops for public servants and others, to be held in the Educational, Health, Social Security, Public Safety and Justice sectors within the state of Piauí;
– Workshops for transvestites and transsexuals dealing with notions of human rights, gender identity and social inclusion;
– Visits to education, health, social security and public safety organs in order to secure partnerships and strengthen awareness of rights and all types of assistance possible for the trans population of Piauí.
Contexto
In the state of Piauí, the biggest problem facing transvestites and transsexuals when they require public assistance is the disrespect from certain public servants and administrators with regard to their gender identity, who often insist on using their legal names. This kind of violence not only represents disrespect for the construction of gender by transvestites and transsexuals, but also causes psychological harm in these people.
In terms of socialization activities, GPTrans affirms the importance of specifying current issues such as the use of bathrooms by transvestites and transsexuals, the acceptance of social names in accordance with law 5.916/2009, as well as the respect for their gender identities.
