The Human Rights Clinic is a university-based center created in 2007 at the Regional University of Joinville – UNIVILLE and it seeks to offer a legal education clinic through teaching, research and extension courses in the field of human rights.
Results
A group was created, as part of the project, focusing on intersectional work together with offices of the Public Defender of the Union, the Public Defender of the State of Santa Catarina, the Department of Social Services (Centro Pop), the Health Department (street reception) and the Human Rights Coordination of the Joinville Prefecture. Strategic meetings and training workshops were held with the project’s partners to consider activities and processes collectively. A research/survey outlined the profile of Joinville’s homeless population. Arrangements were made for holding human rights workshops with the homeless; ombudsman activities such as specific legal and health services for the homeless population; producing and disseminating a human rights primer on public rights and policies; a public hearing at the City Council; the creation of the Intersectional Committee for the Homeless Population; preparing and submitting a report to the UN on the homeless population and the right to an adequate standard of living; and the delivery of the final report as well as a presentation of proposals for the prefecture, partners and government agencies.
